Powder Coating
Powder coating is a completely dry finishing technique that really lends itself to the car restoration business. The automotive and maritime industries rely on powder coating for its decorative and protective properties, which include a lustrous shine, outstanding colour selection, and a durable, long-lasting finish.
Unlike other metal-finishing techniques that depend on chemicals and solvents, powder coating uses electrically charged and finely ground pigments and resins that adhere to your parts surface. That part is then heated in a curing oven, which bonds the powder to its grounded surface to produce a smooth, even finish. You're left with a beautiful, uniform coating that looks like paint but acts like armour.
Of course we have the basic colours such as black, white, silver etc, but we also have many other colours including some fantastic candy colours as well as a brilliant chrome. If you have a specific colour in mind we will of course try and get it for you. This is not normally a problem.
Because we have in-house media blasting we have full control over the quality. Once blasted, items are inspected to ensure they are suitable, if not they can be repaired or replaced depending on the customers requirements. This is where external sources can sometimes fall short, unfortunatly items are not checked for one reason or another and they are just powder coated. This of course means that you are paying to have a useless component coated!
The size of the items we can powder coat is dependent on whether or not we can fit it in our oven. Items up to about 4ft long will fit such as bike frames etc. But we tend to specialise in smaller one-off components such as calipers, turbo's etc
Turnaround time is also pretty quick, we realise that you may need the wheels or components back to get your car on the road. We can if needed turn items around the same day.
Larger items may be able to be coated depending on whether or not we can use a hot air gun on it...
